Oswego County is located in northwestern New York. Oswego County has a total area of approximately 1312 square miles of which 73% is land and 27% water. As of the census of 2000, there were 122,377 people, 45,522 households, and 31,228 families residing in the county. It is ranked 20th in county population in New York state. Lake Ontario is on the western border of Oswego county. The county's name is derived from the Iroquois word meaning "the outpouring," referring to the mouth of the Oswego River.
